Author Guidelines

  1. Manuscripts submitted for consideration must not be under consideration or peer review or accepted for publication or published elsewhere and, if accepted, it should not then be published elsewhere in the same form of its publication in the RUN LAW JOURNAL. If previously published figures, tables, or parts of text are to be included, the copyright-holder's permission must have been obtained prior to publication. Authors should send a single file containing the complete manuscript (i.e. abstract, text, figures and tables), as this makes the reviewing process easier for editors and referees.
  2. The title page, information about the author, institutional affiliation and email should be on a cover page as a separate document. The authors’ names should appear centred under the title. Recommended Theme is Times New Roman with Font size 12 for the text and 10 for the footnotes with 1.5 line spacing.
  3. Manuscripts must be clearly written in UK English and should be submitted in electronic format in Microsoft Word to runlawjournal@run.edu.ng
  4. Manuscripts should also be accompanied by an abstract, which summarizes the work in not more than 250 words. The abstract should clearly summarise the manuscripts and state the manuscript’s main argument and relevance to contemporary legal issues.
  5. Manuscripts should be well referenced in footnotes (not endnotes) and must accord with NIGERIAN ASSOCIATION OF LAW TEACHERS (NALT) UNIFORM CITATION GUIDE STYLE or the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) available at www.law.ox.ac.uk/oscola
  6. Deadline for submission of articles, case reviews and comments is 30 January, 2024.

Submissions with interesting intellectual perspectives on the Journal focus are welcome. Kindly endeavor to study the author’s guidelines before any submission as the Journal strictly upholds the guides. The Journal publishes; book reviews, review articles, empirical studies, essays, commentaries and case reviews.

Length of Manuscripts

The Article should contain an abstract of not more than 200 words. The Article should be not normally exceed 7000 words (about 20 pages) including footnotes, commentary and case reviews should be of not more than 4000 words, essays should not be more than 6,000 words, footnotes inclusive and book reviews to be below 3,500 words.

Format

Manuscripts should be written in Time-Romans, 12 –point font and with 1.5 spacing. The manuscript page layout should have right and left margins of 1.5 inches. The referencing style use by this journal is the National Association of Law Teachers (NALT) or Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) 4th edition. Authors should note that the journal does not allow the use of endnotes.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
